Whenever i download and install an update to yosemite, i seems to download ok but hangs up when installing. I have been successful in repairing by booting in safe mode. After safe mode does it's the, the unit completes the instalation of the update, Does anyone have any idea as to what causdes this? It has happened to me when installing the last two OS updates.
iMac, OS X Mountain Lion
I would try the following before updating or upgrading:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion or Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list. Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

What do you mean it hangs up when installing, please explain in more detail. All a Safe Mode restart does is clear some caches. An EtreCheck report of your system may help. You can get it by clicking http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
By hanging up I mean that the screen becomes blank with only the cursor showing. You cannot do anything but shut off the computer
Test the HD using the suggestions Kappy provided and post back the results.
Did recovery disk no problem
Results on repair disk:
Volume HD appears to be ok, And then it says:
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Repair Permissions ok/
