The original iPad cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1 so you are fully up to date for that model iPad.
How to do the up to date the model...
Sell it and put the money towards a newer device. A second generation iPad, iPhone 4S, fifth generation iPod touch, and newer devices will run the current iOS version.

The iPad 1 cannot be updated beyond iOS 5.1.1, and the iPad itself cannot be physically changed. The only way to use the latest iOS version is to buy a newer iPad.
You cannot update the original iPad any further. If you want to run iOS 8.4, you will have to purchase any other iPad but the original version. All other iPads can run iOS 8.4.
