What IOS ver did the cloud first appear

I am trying to assist an individual with IOS 10.5.8 on an older computer which has been failing of late.I would like to back it up to the Cloud to save her data.Is it possible to add the Cloud access to her computer to save the data untill she can determine what to replace her current mac with

Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Support for the iCloud didn’t appear until Mac OS X 10.7.2, and it was never intended to be a Mac OS X backup service. You’re probably better off using an external hard drive instead.
