how can I get emoji on my iMac computer (Yosemite)

How can I get emoli on to my iMac Yosemite. I have tried holding down control, command

and space bar together as suggested but nothing happens.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Click "Edit" button in application menu bar and select "Emoji & Symbols".
