There must be a simple answer, but I cannot (easily) import movie/video shot on my iPhone and in OSX Photos to iMovie. Surely this should be easy? The only workaround I have is to drag and drop the clip onto (say) desktop and then pick it up from there. Seems ugly... I would be grateful for any thoughts..

Are you using the latest version of iMovie? Check to see if you have any updates in the App Store on your Mac. I ask because Apple released an update recently that allowed iMovie to work with the new Photos app.

Yep, using 10.0.89; updated 2 days ago!! Still can't find where to import clips from Photos OSX....
In that case, it looks like they found a solution to the problem on this thread: Photos from Photos app not accessible in iMovie 10.0.8
If you haven't already, check before you try that to see if you see an option for Photos library in the left side menu pane, up in the top corner. If it is showing iPhoto still, try the steps in that thread.
