Hi,

Text Messages (Green) SMS messages are sent in and out via the iPhone.

It sounds like the actual Apple ID is not logged in.

In Messages > Preferences > Accounts deselect the iPhone number as an option and try to send an iMessages as if it were from the Apple ID only.

Hi,

If you are seeing a alert like this:-

User uploaded file

Then there is no other fix but calling Apple Support.

As it is related to an Account/Apple ID issue that only effects the Mac's use of the ID with the iMessages servers you will not have to pay.

Hi,

To sync iMessages across at least and iPhone and a Mac then the iPhone needs to have Messages On so the iPhone (Number) can iMessage.

Then it needs the Apple ID to be listed.

From this point on the two will sync.

On the iPhone it is only possible to deselect the Apple ID (so the iPhone will only see iMessages sent to the iPhone Number)

On the Mac there will initially be a pop up saying what the iPhone is using which you need to accept.

Then in Receive At in the Preferences > Accounts > iMessages you can turn Off the iPhone Number or the Apple ID.

On the Mac you can also deselect the Apple ID as well (or instead).

Of course both devices had Start Conversations From options.

I both IDs (Number and ID) active on both phone and Mac.

However the iPhone is set to Start New conversations from the iPhone Number and the Mac is set to the Apple ID.

I have found on occasions that the iPhone Number on the iPhone has somehow become de-selected even though it is not a user accessible item.

This can mean the iPhone Number becomes de-registered if left too long.

This might be at the bottom of the issue you are having if you are then deselecting it on the Mac version.

I have only seen the alert in Posts here referred to for the Apple ID only and not for the iPhone number.

The biggest reason fro seeing it was after the OS X 10.8.2 update when iMessages started using the Mac's Serial Number to "Confirm" the Mac was you signing In. (It creates and Auth Token in the Keychain that needs the Serial Number and the Password)
