I just upgraded my iTunes on my PC to version 12.2 and now find that I'm unable to transfer imported music from iTunes to my iPhone 5S. Any suggestions?

Have you enabled iCloud Music Library on the iPhone? Check under Settings > Music. I suspect if it is enabled the intention is that manual transfers become redundant since you can access all of your media and playlists as needed.

I'm trying to avoid the $9.99 a month charge for iTunes Music.
If you haven't enabled it then that is fine. I was thinking perhaps you had enabled it, which might have affected syncing.
What happens when you connect your device and try to sync? Does it show up in iTunes? Are there any error messages?

Device shows up in iTunes, everything looks exactly like it did prior to updating to new iTunes. I can drag and drop iBooks to my phone, videos, music that I've purchased from iTunes...just not music that I've imported from a CD
I'm assuming the device is manually managed then.
Does the music that you imported from CD still play in iTunes when you have removed the disc from the drive?
What error or indication do you get when you try and drop the album onto the phone?

Good news; I backed my iPhone up to iTunes, erased all settings and restored from my backup. Fixed now. Thanks for all the suggestions
