Are playlist items still sortable in 12.2?

iTunes 12.2.0.145 on OS X 10.10.4 (14E46)

Since upgrading to iTunes 12.2, it seems that any new playlists I make (smart, normal, or duplicated) have a new layout showing album artwork on the left side but no columns to sort by at the top. My old playlists still have the old sortable layout, but none of the new ones do. While I can choose Edit Playlist and sort the songs in a limited fashion, those 5 options are nothing compared to what the standard columns can do. Specifically, I'm trying to sort by Year. Has anyone found a way to change this?

iMac (27-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), null

If you look at the top right corner of iTunes, underneath the search bar is a drop-down menu labeled Playlist. Clicking on that and changing it to Songs will get the old layout for your playlists back. Unfortunately (as far as I can tell) you can't make this the default setting for playlists and will need to change it every time you make a new one.
