Q: no response from software update server

I'm consistently getting an error message when trying to update software via App Store. I'm running OS X 10.10.3 on a 15" MacBook (Retina) Pro. I tried restarting a few times but keep getting the message "An Error Occurred - Didn't get a response from Software Update Server". Anyone know how to resolve this?

Howdy dsciuk,

It sounds like you aren't able to update your MacBook Pro because of an issue communicating with the Apple update servers. The article linked below provides a lot of great information that will resolve most issues connecting to the Apple update servers in order to download and install updates.
