Preview in Maverick

Hi all,

After scanning an image in TIFF format, anything I try to do in Preview, like downsize or adjust color, results in the image disappearing even though it is clear from its file size in Mb that it is actually still there! Moreover I cannot do a "Save as", in this case JPEG...

Saving in general is not right either. This is an odd one I feel

Please advise - I will be very grateful for any help...
