Unable to sync iPad air following iOS 8.4 update

having updated to iOS 8.4 I'm now unable to synch my 128GB iPad air - when I connect it the device status bar is showing as being over capacity by nearly 80gb and most of the device storage now being Other


None of the photos etc are showing up - just videos, books and Other


However the device still has the content I had before the update (and is still showing the spare capacity (around 5gb))


Every time I try and synch though I get an error message "The iPad "Adrian's iPad"could not be synched because the connection to the iPad was lost".


however I've got the thing plugged in with the cable. WiFi synching gets a different error message - "iPad couldn't be synched because cannot be found"


can anyone advise me on how I can synch content to it once again please?
