can I connect and mirror my MacBook to a 27' iMac?

IS there a way to mirror my MacBook 2015 on a 27' iMac 2011?

I'm not interested in keeping them in sync- I'm just interested in using the 27' iMac screen and external keyboard when at home.

is there a way to do it? do I need specific hardware in order to do it?

MacBook, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), MacBook 2015

I have a related problem. Want to use a mid-2010 iMac as monitor for new Mac Book Pro. Cnet says (http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-use-manage-multiple-screens-with-os-x)connect a mini display port to mini display port (male on both ends) cable and use the TDM feature on the target iMac. But I can't find such a cable anywhere. I tried a thunderbolt to thunderbolt and that does not work. Ideas? Thanks!
