Connect it to the wall adapter for 30 minutes. Then hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds, usually). This is called a "reset" but it actually does a reboot of iOS. You won't lose any data.

Thank you! That solved the problem!
Hi. Any other suggestions? I plugged my iphone 6 into the wall for 2 hours and when I press both HOME and SLEEP buttons the little logo of a battery shows up indicating I need to charge it.
Either your USB adapter, cable or phone has failed. Try a different adapter and cable. Inspect and clean the connector on the bottom of the phone. If none of these steps fix it take all of the parts to an Apple Store. Make an appointment online first to avoid a long wait.
same thing is happening to me with my iphone 5 . any ways it fix it without taking it to the apple store???
Read the message immediately above yours. As you have an iPhone 5, Apple has an extended battery warranty due to some units being shipped with batteries that failed prematurely. Check this out to see if your phone is one that is covered: https://www.apple.com/support/iphone5-battery/
