How to restart phone after IOS8.4 upgrade without losing media stored on the phone if I restore? Phone is frozen with connect to itunes logo on screen and I received error -39. I did not do backup before I installed the upgrade and I do not want to lose the photos stored on my phone. Everything I have researched online points to restore is my only option??

Turn iPhone off.
Connect lead to USB on your PC
Press & hold power button down on iphone don't let go
Connect lead to iPhone
Keep power button pressed down
Until PC sees iphone wait for restore .
When you last charged your iphone it should have backed
Up to iCloud so your data may be safe?

I had this exact same problem. Unfortunately my macbook couldn't recognize my iPhone when I plugged it in. It took plugging it into an older mac with an old version of iTunes for it to finally be recognized and to fix it. Unfortunately, it had to take it back to factory settings but I was able to plug it into my regular macbook and restore it from a backup.
