Q: why does the coloured wheel stop itunes when I connect my ipad to itunes

Hi my Mac always freezes when I conect the ipad to back it up and update.

I have tried to connect at different times - ie before starting itunes as well as after starting itunes. The coloured wheel appears and won't go away as soon as I connect the ipad. After an hour or so my only option is to force quit.

One month ago I updated this computer & my iphone 4S and all went well.

Here are the details of my devices:

MacBook Pro (15in Mid 2010)

OSX Yosemite V.10.10.4

Processor 2.53 Ghz Intel Core i5

Memory 4 GB

Storage 304.9 GB of 498.88 GB

iPad:

Version 7.0.4 (11B554a)

Model MD515X/A

Capacity 57.1 GB - Available 10.7 GB

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4), Processor 2.53 Ghz Intel Core i5 -
