Can I stop pages refreshing when using gestures to view previous page?

If I'm viewing a web page, a good example would be an online magazine page, then click on an article, i often want to flick back to previous 'front' page, unfortunately this makes the front page refresh, negating the advantage of using gestures to flick quickly back and forth. Can this be turned off anywhere?

Thanks Scott
