Are there country-specific limitations to playlists?

Hey there,

as a day1 Apple Music user that switched from Spotify, I have a question related to an issue that bothers my subscribers from Spotify.

I've created a playlist on Apple Music and gave the link to a friend, that complained that my Spotify playlists were no longer working (probably the result from cancelling the subscription).

He tried the link but since he lives in Denmark, he wasn't able to access my playlist (I live in Germany) - same problem with another friend from the US.

I was just wondering, if there is a cross-country limitation in Apple Music that makes it impossible to access playlist from another country or is this just a temporary issue that will be fixed?

I think it depends on the music availability of that specific country. If your playlist contain tracks that are not licensed to be distributed on the other country, that specific track will be grey out.

PS: many Japanese track on the J-Pop playlist are unavailable for my country [Malaysia] to stream. 😠😟

Hi.

I also use spotify and Apple Music and am interest in Thai music.

With Spotify I had access to Thai playlists and lots of Thai music, however on Apple Music there is little Thai music available.

Even music available in iTunes is not available in Apple Music.

I have an Australian account and I think Apple Music is filtering or limiting music for different regions or countries.

I think it is doing this depending on which country your Apple ID is from.

Well, I talked to my friend again and he insists that he wasn't able to play or save my playlist since it's from another country's store. I would have figured that specific songs are limited to regions but not entire playlists.

I'd love to know for certain if that's the case and if there's a workaround or if there will be cross-country functionality in the future, if not that would suck big time :/
