I'm having the same problem I have iPhone 6 and the selfie stick won't work at all but my mam has an iPhone 6 too et it works on her phone. The other day day I updated to iOS 10.2 and I don't know if that's got anything to do wth it but I plug in the selfie stick and the photo just won't take
It has nothing to do with IOS Upgrade. If you go to Settings and simply turn off Bluetooth then go back to camera, you will be able to take the picture with the selfie stick.
The issue here is that when your phone has Bluetooth on and you connect the selfie stick, the iPhone is trying to connect to it by Bluetooth. Turning off Bluetooth disables the function and Yipee! It all works now!
For me the problem was that the button didnt work, so I took my head phones and plugged it into my phone then I put the part where you can change the volume in the same hand as the one holding the stick, and I was able to take the picture. Hopefully that helps!
And for that, many of us are grateful. Those things are a menace.However.
As the selfie stick was not made by Apple, you should contact the manufacturer.
Hmm thats not too helpful.
I've got this issue myself - surely someone knows something.
Standard bluetooth pairing selfie stick, pairs with the apple device but the shutter button on the stick does not cause the camera to take the picture.
Same issue on the iPhones: a 4, a 5s, and a 6. the 5 and 6 are running iOS 8.4.
The very same seflie stick works perfectly with both a samsung s5 and a HTC desire.
So the stick is operational - the issue is with the apple phones.

Have you confirmed with the manufacturer that their device supports iPhones?
I'm having the same problem with my stick. It worked fine last week, it works on my ipad as well. I think the update to the iOS is affecting its use. I have tested it on other iDevices and they all seem to be fine, but not the iphone 5S i have been using it on for almost 2 months now.
So what troubleshooting have you tried? It is possible with the iOS update that the stick is not recognizing the device any longer. If the device is shown in the Bluetooth list on the phone, remove it. Turn off Bluetooth on the phone After that, put the stick into discovery/pairing mode. Turn on Bluetooth and it should discover and pair. If that does not happen, you may have to reset the phone to clear old settings. Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. Try pairing again after that.
I have the same problem. The Selfie stick works with my iPad (Version 8.4) but not with iPhone 5s (Version 8.4) . I used "Forget this Device" and connecting it again but it does not work.
I found another post on this support forum :
Why does my cable selfie stick stop working after upgrading to iOS8.2?!
It seems it is the iOS newer version is the problem.
Interesting. Has anyone checked to see if all of the people lodging complaints here are using the same selfie stick? Also, when I asked about troubleshooting, the closest thing to troubleshooting was to Forget the Device, but no one else reported anything. A lot more troubleshooting could be done, and also a comparison of devices. Check with the manufacturer to see if their device supports iOS 8.4 on the iPhone and the latest Bluetooth profile.

That post does not describe anything about the selfie stick except cable, which does not reflect Bluetooth, which could be a completely different issue.
I had the same problem as listed in these posts.I checked the sound port with a bright light and discovered a ball of pocket lint. Careful removal with a toothpick and my IPhone 6 now works perfectly with the SunPak wired selfie wand

This worked for me. I used a Q-Tip after taking most of the cotton off. Selfie stick works now.
