"Pages" : Unwanted number inserts & changes

I want "Pages" to show what I type and ONLY what I type.

How do I make "Pages" default to stop inserting unwanted numbers, stop changing already typed following numbers, and stop juggling indenting ?

Example :

I start a paragragh with a number one

If I then key 'Return, "Pages" automatically enters a number two below

If I already have a number two following, this changes automatically to number three

Deleting the automatically entered two just takes me back to where I was after entering the one, and impossible to get what I type.

This also plays havoc with indenting.

Before "Pages", *I* could decide what I wanted !
