iTunes 12.2.0 have deleted all of my playlists and most songs...

This happened to me with the last update. I had completely forgotten the incident and horror! I do not know how I got it fixed then. Now I just received another update notice and I updated upon command. Same horror repeated. This is unbelievable!!! Been reading all these posts, exhausted!! Will have to come back another day...don't have time for this!!! Years and Years...creating playlists.

These steps that Richard posted don't make sense to me today. Do I have to Deauthorize first?

I have PC. I did not have to deauthoirze. I followed path you and Richard laid out.. My file names don't have .itl at end so I added .itl at end. That did not work, so I just renamed without .itl at end and it worked. Thank you!!!!! Let's hope this sticks. Much appreciated!!

Can't seem to find iTunes xml only see iTunes.itl. Any help with what to do there?

The xml file is provided for third party support. iTunes uses the itl file. If you want iTunes to generate an xml use Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Share iTunes Library XML with other applications.

Here I am almost 1 year later trying to fix this, and that alt/option shift start was the key to getting my old library back.

I have this problem, but with iOS instead of OS X. The playlists still exist on my MBPro, but my iPhone is missing half of them despite them existing and playable on my Mac. Both are fully up to date and my iPhone has plenty of room. Does anybody have or know where to find answers where playlists won't sync between devices?

The following steps should help, assuming all of the content you want is in your library.

(If it isn't see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device first.)

1. Backup device.
2. Restore as a new device.
3. Restore the backup you made earlier.

I feel your pain! as a Dj I have 100's of playlists and this was seriously messing my lists up!

I found a workout and actually created a tutorial on how to get around this. It won't fix iTunes removing files from manual playlists (I'm not sure you actually can) but gives you some tips on how to create better protected playlists!

What is the "main" iTunes folder? You mean the one that says iTunes media - I only have these two: Previous iTunes folder and iTunes media. SUPER UPSET I have a party tonight!!

The main iTunes folder is the one that contains iTunes Media, Previous iTunes Libraries, Album Artwork, and the library database files. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash. <<< This link works unlike the one two posts above. 😊
