As of 2 days ago, I am unable to log on to my wordpress website. Every other website I can log on to fine, and it's not a problem with wordpress as I can reach other wordpress sites, just not my own. It is also not working from my i-phone but on my husband's Windows laptop it can be reached without problem. I'd be very grateful for any ideas! Thank you
MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
Back up all data.
Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
Notes:
1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself. Remember that you must click Apply in order for any changes to take effect.
2. I don't use Google DNS myself, though I have tested it, and I'm not recommending it or any other DNS provider; the server addresses are offered merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.
Could be your Mac is storing the wrong password in your keychain. Try installing a different browser like Google Chrome and then log in using that browser instead of Safari. Try changing your password. Try using a different WiFi network.
Hi, thanks for your responses. Even with other wifi networks it doesn't work. Am already using Google chrome and I should have said before that I cannot even get to the login page of my wordpress website. Have also tried clearing all browsing data and still no joy.Any other ideas??
Hi Linc, I cannot even get as far as the login page. When I type in either the URL of my website or for my login page it looks like it;s thinking about it then this sign comes up: 'This webpage is not available. Err_Connection_Timed_Out.'
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Test.
Do you think it's worth trying to switch back to Safari from google chrome? (I was using this till about one year ago)
What exactly happens when you try to log in to the site?
The iPad does the same thing, but not a PC on the same network? You're sure of that?
Very strangely, it works on the ipad (and the PC) but not on the macbook air or the i-phone. It is the same network for all of these.
