Airdrop not working on MacBook air Mid 2011

The airdrop on my MacBook Air is not picking up my iMac, although my friends MacBook Air (later model) is connecting to my iMac fine.

- MacBook air (Mid 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.4) and my iMac is late 2013, also with Yosemite 10.10.4. Bluetooth is switched on and there is no security enabled - all incoming connections are allowed.

As far as I can tell from apple support pages MacBook air later than mid 2010 should be compatable to airdrop to the OS X macs.

Any ideas?

Thanks

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.4)

See this article, especially "Sending files to and from an older Mac" near the bottom.

As that section says, your Mid-2011 MacBook Air does fit in the "older Mac" category.
