apple photo has no way to handle events ?

Hi all,

I am an amateur photographer and I am a lightroom+iPhoto user.

I am very disappointed by apple photo because it seems that there is no way to keep on using events (which I like).

Is there any way to do it in photo ?

Thanks,

Yann

Photos has a completely different way to partition the library.

  • iPhoto used events - each photo and all its versions belonged to exactly one event. The user could organize the events and move photos between events.
  • Photos uses moments instead. Each photo and all its versions are in one specific moment. But Photos assigns the photos to the moments automatically based on the date and the location. You cannot influence how the moments are created and you cannot name the moments.

In Photos you have less work to partition the library, because it is automatic, but you have less control.

You could try to simulate the events by albums. When you migrated the library, Photos created an album for each of your events and placed it into the "iPhoto Events" folder.

You're welcome. 🙂

I can recover my existing events but cannot create new ones.

Which I did for events that covered more than one day (like vacations for example).

I will now need to find a replacement, or handle everything in lightroom.

Have you checked out the collections in Photos? (https://help.apple.com/photos/mac/1.0/?lang=en#/pht56eafa987)

The collections will group related moments, for example all photos taken during a vacation.

Or create an album from all photos that you want to merge, like you used your events.

But if you already use Lightroom, it will be better anyway to stick with one application.
