Simple question: how to paginate, especially if starting page number one on the fourth page.

Should be very simple: How to paginate a document, especially if starting number one which would be on the fourth page. (first 3 pages would be without numbers).

Version: 10.9.5

The partial answer to this "simple" question was addressed Apple staff.i spent 3+ hours attempting to paginate. The I called Apple HELP. First an on-line chat, with a tech/not app guy. He was nice, but of no help. Then I started a phone session. No. 1 guy, again nice, but clueless, Passed on to another "specialist". Nice guy, but with no knowledge, Then I was passed on to a Sr. Advisor CPU" At the start of all this I gave permission for them to see the screen.

He was able to paginate the doc. starting at age 1 but not at p.4 (the first three pages = title , acknowledgements, table of contents) I want the 4th page to be page 1. Time on the phone = one hour forty eight minutes. and only a partial answer. Peter, do you think you're smarter than an Apple Senior Advisor? and start the pagination on p.4? There might be a future for you at The Apple.

Hi Ron,

Version 10.9.5 is OS X Mavericks?

Then you are using Pages 5.x

Click at the bottom of Page 3 and Menu > Insert > Section Break

Click in the new Section (Page 4) and Format Panel > Document > Section > Page Numbering > Start at 1

Untick Match previous section.

User uploaded file

Insert Page number in the Page Header or Page Footer.

Please call back with questions.

Regards,

Ian.

Apparently yes, and that would be exactly why there is no future for me at Apple.

Do as Viking says. Break up your document into Sections and change the second to Start at: 1, don't match previous.

Rich and famous. Sounds wonderful. The great giant hurdle is getting published and distributed. I self-published my first book. Very easy with Amazon's CreateSpace. Getting on the book shelf; that is quite difficult. With 1000's of books published weekly, only those already famous have a chance. If by chance I am published you can contribute to my bank account by purchasing the book: Parrhesiastes and the Assessment of Homo sapiens.

Well Peter, you must reside in the UK.. we refer to the rubber things on cars as tires. Of course a diet book would outsell any serious treatise on the problems facing humanity; screwed up government, the environment and the influence of biblical teaching disregarding the climate crisis. Maybe comedy should be highlighted in any book attempting to reach the masses. Or the latest news from Hollywood. The possibilities are endless.

I don't, and who is this "We"?

I live in the larger universe that doesn't live inside the mirror lined box and is extremely concerned with We's parochial views.

Views that are very much uniquely of We's own making.

Other than the parochialism, we (you and me) are on the same page.
