My screen fades out occasionally.

Lately I've had problems with Firefox on my MacBook (Yosemite) looking like the pixels were breaking up; then today the network acted like it was "losing consciousness," fading out then clearing up. Not the entire computer screen, just the network. Any clues? Thank you in advance!
