Create more frequent previous iTunes libraries?

With all the talk of problems with Music Match, I verified that my computer has been keeping previous iTunes libraries. It does, but I was surprised by the dates of these backups: 7/1/15, 6/29/15, then 10/5/14, then 7/29/13, etc.

Since I frequently add content to iTunes, I would hope that a more frequent backup would occur. 15 months between some backups?.

Is there a way to create more frequent backups? Also, do these previous iTunes libraries include the playlists?

They’re only created when an update to iTunes changes the library’s structure. You can back up the library more often, but need to do so manually or use backup software.

The .itl version of the library file contains all the information used to generate what you see when you start the iTunes program, including playlists. In fact for practical purposes it is the only version that contains some information such as ratings, date added, play count.

See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a strategy that backs up the entire library. As given you can make your own manual backups of the .itl file from time to time.
