Is it free to get assistance with apple products at an official apple store?

I am wondering if there's any way to get help with questions/issues/problems I'm having. I tried to,do a tech support chat and it said it's around $30. Now I'm wondering; are they ggoing to help me with all my questions/problems in one chat session? Or is each separate issue $30? What is best way to get assistance? I'm having problems trying to back up onto cloud and upgrade my iOS software.
