iPhone 6; unable to restore or correct error message

when checking for updates to iTunes and my iPhone 6, the phone froze on with icon on phone screen showing plug in to iTunes> the screen on my Mac laptop in iTunes pop-up said the phone could not be located. Therefore are unable to restore phone and phone is locked on the plug in screen and unuseable

despite the unlock/ reset using the home button and the on off buttons as described as a solution.
