App Store Updates will not go through, Help!!!

So I have gone through Apple support, paid $30 and still my computer will not work. They could not figure it out.....

My app store icon in my dock shows a red circle number "1". Obviously if youre familiar with macs you know this means an update is available.

When I click on the app store and click on the update button, it turns to updated the ghosts out and then returns back to the original state saying update...As if I never clicked on it. also, NO it doesn't update... when I check on what needs updating, Lets use Safari for example.. I can open up the app and look at the about part and nothing will have changed. I can restart the computer and still nothing happens.

I've trashed the app store prefs...., I've re installed the entire OS, I've changed over users. You name it, I've done it... Still it does not work..

Can't figure it for the life of me... and neither can Apple.... What is up????

Any help out there would be great... Let me know... I've read of others having similar prob, maybe you fixed.... let me know how you did....

Checked the startup disk lately?

Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities

Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)

If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.

no.. tried twice.. .they were nice about the whole thing but issue just isn't getting fixed.

The first time I called in they transferred be three times to 3rd tier support.

That person had me download an app that would record a report and was sent to the engineers...

They came back with saying that my computer had "Adware" on it... so they had me download "Admedic" and clear it out....

it worked for about 2 or 3 days... which really two or three days had gone by before another update popped up... so I don't think it ever really fixed anything..

I call back and spoke to an apple tech again.. told that person to read the past report on my account, and then he proceeded to have me do all the same stuff... total repeat.

So at this point I'm sure apple doesn't know what's wrong and can't figure it out. I don't run a lot or install a lot of stuff on my computer.

I use Adobe design suit and a few misc. file naming apps that run off the desktop.. they are not a hard install like the adobe stuff.

I've had that stuff on the computer from day one and ran fine for a couple of years until this popped up.

Computer still runs fine, all apps work fine.... it's just this update thing that is messed up.. The mac just won't update... and the weird part is that is doesn't show any error... click update... it blinks as if it did and then reverts back to how was prior to clicking... all in a matter of a few seconds.... Not even a pinwheel spin....

I'm baffled.. never seen anything like it.....

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Hey Linc, are you still available to help?

sorry for not being able to reply faster the first time, I was out of town so could not perform the task you recommended.

If you can, please look through it and see if anything alerts you to why this is happening to me..

I'm hoping you can help me fix it since apple couldn't...

Don't know if I did this right... let me know if I can do anything different for your help...

This procedure will delete certain temporary and cache files used by system processes. The files are automatically generated and don't contain any of your data. Occasionally they can become corrupt and cause problems such as yours.

Back up all data before proceeding.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

/var/folders/zz

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with a subfolder named "zz" selected. Move that subfolder to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

This worked... I can't believe it! Thank you... After spending countless hours on phone with apple, paying them the $30 for their tech support that resulted in nothing but wasted time.... Thank you!

I can't believe how simple the fix was... I've never heard/seen of these "ZZ" folders...

After taking your steps, restarting then going to the Appstore update menu, it successfully downloaded the updates and proceeded with the 10.10.4 combo update... The update it self was interesting. I took about 30min to fully install. Upon one of the restarts I got a weird "tone" sound then a few secs of nothing gray screen then restart... I think the machine restarted about 5 times in all. Finally after it was complete I logged in to see a few pop up messages of "your computer shutdown unexpectedly" and crash report stuff... X out of those, and checked everything out... seemed okay... So As of now, everything seems to be back to norm..

I wish i knew what was the cause of it all but may never know.

Thank you Link Davis! for taking the time to share your knowledge! I wish I could take back the $30 from apple and provide it to you.
