Where are you trying to write the files to? To a folder in your home folder or an external drive?
I attempted to exported NEF file
Are the files perhaps missing? Can you edit the photos in Photos?
Thank you for your reply. I tried exporting it to a thumb drive and a folder on my desktop with the same results. I can see the photos in Photos but they will not export as NEF or JPEG's.
Then the original files may be missing. Test this by trying to edit one of the files. If the original files cannot be accessed you can see the photos, but you cannot edit a photo or export it.
Where is your Photos library stored? Is it an iCloud Photo Library? Or is the library on an external drive?
I'm trying to export photos from a "photos album" to a thumb drive. they're all in my "photos" library and can be edited there, but I still get the error message above for every single photo in the album =/
I got help from the Apple Support, and even though I can't remember exactly how we fixed it, it might be useful for someone more savvy to know, that in my case it had to do with me as a user lacking the _rights_ to move at least some of the album photos in question.
Even though I'm "admin" this can apparently happen, and I guess this goes to show how little I understand of what's going on "behind the scenes" ... 8)
I solved this by changing the permissions for the folder I was trying to export the files to - OS X Yosemite: If you don’t have the permissions to open a file or folder
