I have one work phone, one home and I'd like to merge the contacts onto the MacAir. Can anyone advise how I do this please? Thanks

Just to make sure that we are on the same page, you have 2 iPhone's with 2 Apple ID's and you want to get the contacts from both of them on to your MacBook Air. That is something that I can help you out with and is something that can be done multiple ways. I will outline both for you and you can choose what option works best for you.
I want to point out that I assume you are using iCloud when referring to 2 Apple ID's. In that case you can sign into both accounts on your MacBook Air. You will do that in Internet Accounts pane in System Preferences. You can add a different iCloud account to have those contacts show up in the Contacts App on your Mac. Take a look at the first article for more information.
To open this pane, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Internet Accounts.

The other option is just simply exporting the contacts from iCloud.com. You can log in and view the contacts there, select the contacts either one by one or selecting all, and then use the gear in the lower left hand corner of the screen to bring up that option.
