Q: 10.10.x Bluetooth Mouse Stutter / Lag / Jittering

I recently bought a Mircosoft bluetooth 4.0 designer mouse to pair with my MBP 2015 13inch.

The mbp paired well with the bluetooth mouse and even named it correctly.

OSX version: 10.10.4 Yosemite

However, there was a noticeable lag and stuttering in the mouse movements.

I setup an online chat with Apple support and they told me it might be a microsoft mouse/driver problem? (what?)

I am convinced this issue is a Yosemite or Macbook problem.

Here's the reason why:

  1. No mouse lag issue when wifi is turned off (serious deal-breaker)
  2. No mouse lag issue when wifi is connected to 5ghz wireless network. (perhaps wifi 2.4ghz interfere with bluetooth? what?!)
  3. No mouse lag issue when using a usb mouse with wifi turned on
  4. Bluetooth mouse works properly with other devices (windows laptop)

I don't understand why this isn't an apple issue.

Anyone has any fixes or ideas ?

Thank you.

Yeah I took my laptop in and they replaced it but still the same problem. The best fix so far was to use the included dongle with the mouse. The internal antennas must be too close.

I have the same issue with my 2015 13" MBP (A1502).  Logitech MX Master, OS X 10.11, stuttering disappears when Wi-Fi is powered off.  Appears to be a firmware/hardware issue with Bluetooth/Wi-Fi chip(s).  Desperately want to find a solution.

Bluetooth on rMBP late 2015 has always been buggy : ghosts of devices, unable to pair devices for no reason etc.

But Apple is applying his policy not to acknowledge any problem whatsoever except under most duress circumstances.

Just have a look in Google at bluetooth problems OS X and you will see the extended scope of their inability to provide adequate bluetooth support on their machines over the years ...

I bought a Macbook Air for work and I was really impressed - so much so that I decided to upgrade to the Macbook Pro.

I was using my Designer Mouse FLAWLESSLY with the Air and I'm having the same issue as everyone else with this Pro.

    Hi all,

After updated to El Capitan 10.11.1 this morning the Designer Mouse works flawlessly without any jittering issue..!!

If you guys don't have a problem to upgrade your os, please feel free to do so. It fixes the problem.

Mine is Macbook Pro 13 retina 2015, BTW.

Is is still working for you? Because this problem started for me after installing El Capitan. And it's happening not with a microsoft peripheral. It's the Apple Bluetooth Trackpad. Usually iTunes starts stuttering before the trackpad does.

In my case, I've narrowed it down to an interrupt issue. Both my iPhone and MBP are bluetooth-paired to a Jawbone speaker. When a call, email, or notification comes in or anything else that creates an alert sound on my phone, it tries to play it over the bluetooth speaker. iTunes is already using that speaker and it starts stuttering. It continues to do so until I turn off the iPhone's bluetooth and restart the speaker. My Apple trackpad and keyboard are also bluetooth and I think this is why typing and mousing action are also interrupted.

My suggestion is to look for situations where two devices are both paired to a peripheral and unpair one of them.

Same problem here - MBPR October 2015 & Magic Mouse.

Had zero issues with my MBPR 2014, I noticed the lag from day 1 with my 2015.

Same issue.  Mid 2014 MBP 15in Retina.  Logitech MX Master.   There is also a huge rambling going on in their support forums about this.

The one point I want to make is I did not have this problem prior to El Capitan.

Until a solution I am just hardwired with an old Logitech mouse.   Working flawlessly.   Will plug in the MX Master from time to time to test, able to tell quite easily the difference.   Pretty  disappointing to say the least as the MX Master, when working, was probably the best mouse I have ever used.
