Thunderbolt shuts down when entering screen saver?

I have a Thunderbolt display attached to Mac Mini (2014). I also have a Samsung (21 inch) monitor attached to HDMI port. I want to use the Samsung as the primary display and the Thunderbolt as secondary. When I set it up this way, the Thunderbolt shuts down when the screen saver activates. It will not come back on until I restart the system. I need them in this order for some video/photo editing I do, while running some other programs. With the Thunderbolt as primary, everything works fine. Hate to disable the screensaver. And the Thunderbolt is too large where it sits on my desk. I am too close and it really bothers me.
