iCloud and Hotmail Calendars missing online and on my iPhone 5s...

Where have they gone?!

I have tried:

• logged in an out of iCloud on iPhone
• logged into iCloud online but calendar empty there too
• logged into both Hotmail accounts online but calendars empty other than a few entries and ones i've been invited to
• Synced 'show all' under settings>calendars, unsycned and resynced
• Gone into settings and resynced 'calendars' with each mailbox

What else can i do??? Because they don't seem to appear online i don't trust that a backup will do much good??
