Maybe, if it meets the requirements for Yosemite, which are found on Apple's Yosemite page.

as for question #2--no you cannot reinstall the older OS, at least not easily.


your software may require some updating to work with Yosemite. .....


you may also want to consider increasing the ram in your 2009 macbook pro. It'll take up to 8 gigs, and Yosemite loves the ram.
