Can I put a mid-2012 MBP battery into early-2011 MBP?
Ik the battery will fit but is there some other reason this won't work?

They should be compatible. Look at the battery information from the OWC website:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/Apple/Laptop/Batteries
The respective model identifiers will accept the same battery.
