Where is the mic control on IPhone 4S?

Hi

Can anyone tell me where to find the volume control on the IPhone 4S? Not the ringer - I can find that ok - but I need to turn up the mic (the one at the bottom of the Iphone) that allows people to hear what I am saying on the phone, while turning down the mic (the one at the top) that I use to hear people when they are speaking to me on the phone.

At the moment they can't hear me unless I go to Youtube and turn up the volume control on a video (surely there's an easier way of adjusting the volume control on the 4S than going to a third party website!?) but when I do that it also turns up the incoming mic so that I get deafened. Plus any ads that play are incredibly loud, enough to annoy the neighbours

Help will be much appreciated

The thing at the top used to hear people is not a microphone.

its a speaker.

adjusting the volume so the sound coming out of the speaker at the top does nothing to adjust the sensitivity of the microphone.

Regardless of what they are called, where do you go on the Iphone 4S to adjust the sound levels for the mic and the speaker?

You adjust the speaker by using the volume buttons on the side of the phone while on a call. There is no adjustment for the microphone. If it isn't loud enough the grille may be blocked, or the mic may be failing.

Test a call using a bluetooth headset or headphones with an in-line mic. If they are able to hear you just fine, then Lawrence Finch's theory is most likely correct.
