Weird screen issue

Weird screen issue

My screen has quit on me but if my phone is dead and you push the lock button it shows the indicator saying to plug in the phone. After plugged in, when the phone has enough power to come on the screen is just black but you can slightly see that the backlight is going. I know I need to get a new phone but my issue is I want to backup because my last isn't really that recent. I would think that finger print ID would unlock my phone so I could back up but it isn't. Does anyone have any ideas?

I thought I submitted that stuff when making the thread, sorry. It's a 6 with the latest update (8.4?). Water damage is a possibility but I'm not sure. The upper part of my glass around the earpiece is missing. It is receiving messages as I type this.

I also just called myself and the black screen does not seem to be responsive because I could not answer. I'm guessing the touch ID doesn't function independently

You definitely have hardware damage that can be fixed only by repair or replacement. Take it to Apple for evaluation.

its your lcd/digitiser that has failed and needs replaced, under warranty apple arent too expensive https://www.apple.com/support/iphone/repair/screen-damage/

Actually, Touch ID is separate and if that's not working, either water damage or physical damage beyond the digitizer is likely. The phone needs to be examined and tested before initiating any specific fix.

I think that it may actually work but I just remembered that after the phone has been off a password is required to be typed in the first time. I have AppleCare plus so I'll just be getting a new one but I was hoping to get a more recent backup before hand.

In reply to Paul it has failed in a way but it still functions as normal when the battery is dead (shows icon saying to plug in), very strange issue. If the thing would work for just a few seconds when connected to my MacBook I'd unlock it and be good to go.

Why wouldn't Apple allow you to enter the passcode on iTunes if the phone is connected? I'm sure many other people have had a screen die and not been able to unlock or retrieve data or pictures off their phone before swapping to a new one.
