How can I change the default file permission on images saved from browser?

Every time I save an image from my browser, the default file permission for everyone is set to no access.

Is there any way to change this to read only? (My account is the admin of this computer.)

It gets quite irritating when you are coding or entering content into a website..

Thank you.

I'm just saving images from any ordinary website, like Facebook, or even from here.

For example, if I save right-click and go "Save image as" on your avatar, the default for everyone is No access.

I have to manually go through every file like you mentioned, (cmd + i), and change the permission of the image..

User uploaded file

I'm saving the images into Desktop folder mainly.

Any images that goes to Downloads folder does the same too (e.g. via Facebook, open Image, Options, Download).

Any clue...?

Select file, Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window, open the Sharing & Permissions panel. Click on the lock and authenticate. Change the Everyone entry from No access to Read only. Close the window.

I don't know where you are saving the downloaded file, but my system saves downloads with Read Only, not No Access. Perhaps you have some permissions issues on your disk or you aren't saving in a folder that allows Read Only for new files.

Oddly, my first attempt to download the image to downloads folder gave me no access for Everyone.

I then used download linked file as… and picked Users/Shared. I got read only.

I then thought it might have to do with the parent permissions.

I created a folder on my desktop and removed the Group and set Everyone to no access.

I downloaded the image to that folder, but still got read only.

Went back and downloaded to Downloads again and got read only.

I didn't change anything except creating that one folder and changing its permissions.

I can't re-create your problem anymore.

I think I've narrowed down the issue.

When I save an image from Safari, the permission is "Read only" for everyone.

But when I save an image from Chrome, the permission is "Read only" for only staff and me / "No Access" for everyone.

How can I fix this?

Manually change the permissions.

You ou could create a folder to which you move them (or download the into), then create an Automator Folder Action that changes the permissions on files added to the folder.

I Don't have a Mac at my disposal to test, so I can't suggest the Shell script to do the changes.
