Ethernet adapters not really working?

Just bought the latest release of the macbook pro.

I bought the apple ethernet to thunderbolt adapter. Nothing.

I bought an owc thunderbolt 2 dock with an ethernet port built in. Sometimes it works. Most times not. Sometimes if i restart it kicks in. Sometimes not.

Ethernet seems funky on this machine.

I'd really like ethernet to work.

Thanks for any help.

Morris

ps. My old macbook pro (2008) came with this styrofoam kind of sheet that i used all these years to put between keyboard and screen so oil off the keys wouldn't screw up the screen. Would a piece of paper be good? Tracing paper? Just want to keep the screen in good shape.

I have this thunder bolt 2 box which I have used in the past on an older Mac book pro. ( only as a USB 3 hub)

I have recently bought a new macbook pro which only has C USB ports.

I have connected my hub using an apple C-thunderrbolt adapter.

This gives me all of the ports I used to have!

However after boot, I always have to turn my (always on) ethernet switch off and back on again before the "thunderbolt ethernet slot 1" will connect.
