Q: I do not want my iweb site to cache passwords

I built my site in iWeb a few years ago.I am using Godaddy to host. I need my site, or at least some of the directories password protected. Go Daddy has this feature, but it works in the following manner.

1. A pop-up appears asking for user name and password

2. When you enter this you are allowed into the site.

3. However, when closing your browser, the password remains in the cache and you do not have to enter it again when re-opening the browser, thus defeating the purpose of a password..

Is there a code I can enter in the HTML5 widget that will prevent a password drom storing in the cache?

Or any other way I can reciffy this problem?

Thank you.

imac, Mac OS X (10.5.3)

You could try deleting your cookies for the site. In Safari that is in the Security tab. I suspect the site is caching your 'session'. That can be managed via cookies. You should contact GoDaddy if you want cookies to expire or to confirm that is the issue, they will know how their system works.

The password is not cached in the browser unless you have agreed to do so, check the settings for your browser. Safari has a list under the passwords tab. Passwords can also be also saved into your keychain, Keychain access is where you edit those (inside the /Applications/Utilities/ folder). The login keychain is the one that you user accesses - don't touch any others!

You can also reset your browser if you want to take the 'sledgehammer to crack a nut' approach, that will purge all sessions & cookies should you choose those options. Quitting your browser can sometimes be enough to cause a new login prompt to appear.

If that doesn't help please post more info on what browser (name & version) you are working with, it can usually be found in the 'Application menu > About xxx'.
