I import pictures from my camera card .....

I imported some family photos last week from my camera card. I went to look at these photos and saw that the event folder I created was gone. I went to reimport them (luckily I didn't remove them from my card) and it said already imported. It even told me which folder they were in. I looked again at Photos and there was no such event (i.e. "Grad '15). I opened iPhoto (which I didn't know still existed) and the folder is there. Why are my pictures importing to iPhoto and NOT Photos????
