Problems sycing iPod touch after updating to latest version of iTunes.

After updating my iPod touch and iTunes (Windows 7) to the latest version, my iPod no longer syncs properly. I deselected 1 album by an artist and ticked songs for another album. After syncing, the deselected album was still there, and so were 4 other albums by the artist, despite ticking songs from only one. As well, of my 7 or so playlists, 4 of them were gone. Repeated attempts to resync over wifi and via USB have yielded no change to the 5 albums by said artist, and 3 of the previous missing playlists are now back, and 4 that were there are now gone..... what the...
