Keynote is now stuck 'thinking' when I do anything at all

Hello, whats wrong with Keynote? Its slower than a drunk turtle crossing tar pits. Every move I make sends it into pensive mode where the color wheel appears. I am reluctant to install any programs, so any advice that doesn't involve third party products would be much appreciated, thanks.
