Family Sharing - The 'Ask' feature and switching off music sharing.

I've got two questions related to 'Family Sharing':

1) The 'Ask' features doesn't seem to work. It is switched on, but when my daughter tries to purchase something, it says that it is sending an 'Ask request' to me, but I never receive anything. Does anyone know why this is? Is there something else I need to do?

2) My daughter is 8 years old - I don't want to share my music with her. Some of it may not be age appropriate. How can I switch this feature off please?
