iOS 8.4 Upgrade - Safe?

Hello!

I'm a musician, and really want to upgrade to iOS 8.4 to try out Apple Music and all the artist features. In the past, with my recent updates, I have had serious problems. My phone has completely shut off and it won't even let me recover it. I've had to take it in to an Apple store to have them troubleshoot it, and that always takes a few days. Has anyone had this problem with the 8.4 update? Is it safe to update? If so, when updating, should I do it on my computer, or straight through the phone?

I have an iPhone 5S, and I'm on iOS 8.1.2
