iPhoto 'losing' pictures

Hi there.

I'm on a 2009 MacBook Pro, using iPhoto11 9.4.3.

It's suddenly started to lose pictures: when the 'Delete photos from camera?' dialogue box comes up, it deletes the picture from the camera (Fuji FinePIx), but then doesn't show it on the computer, and there's no trace of it anywhere in iPhoto: it just vanishes. The same happens if I don't delete: the picture just doesn't show up.

It's been working great for the last twelve months, it's just started doing this now.

I'd be grateful for any guidance.
