Access to NAS via Safari?

Dear all,

I seem to have an issue to connect to my Synology NAS using Safari.

I can connect if I enter the IP address (http://xxx.xxx.x.xx) without issue. Even .local seems not to be needed to add at the end of the IP address

However, when I try to access the NAS using it's network name (http://diskstation.local/) it won't connect (screen remains white/empty)

Typing in the same NAS-name in the Firefox browser (on the iMac) gives me immediate access to the NAS!

I cleared the history- and webpage data in Safari, but still no connection to the NAS. Regular internet browsing is without issue.

Anyone knows what the problem and/or solution is?

Thanks for the help!

OS X does not support NAS's . I would recommend contacting Synology for support to see if they have a work-around.

Good luck.

I just tried it again: http://diskstation.local:5000/webman/index.cgi

As soon as I hit <enter>, Safari changes the link to something like this: http://fe80::201:31ff:fe05:5d81:5000 and gives a "Failed to open page" error.

Again; if I copy the same address (http://diskstation.local:5000/webman/index.cgi) in Firefox, it connects to the NAS without issue (and Firefox changes the adres into the local address line 192.168.x.x).

Very strange....

I need to start the adres with http://in Safari correct?

It suddenly started working after trying to access the NAS via Safari on the iPad!

At first same error as on the iMac, but after a couple of minutes connection and now it also works on the iMac 🙂

Maybe an DHCP issue on the router? Still strange that Firefox and other programs (browsers on both iMac and iPad) were not affected by that, only Safari was not able to access the NAS by it's name.

Anyway; next time first I will give the router a reboot if this issue happens again. For now everything is fine.

Thanks for the help!
