I just upgraded to a 20 GB but I see that the photos are not being stored. Why?

Just upgraded my iCloud account to a 20GB but I believe my photos and videos are not being stored. When I go to manage, the system is not letting me check the iPhotos icon.... Why is that? I have an OS X version 10.9.5
