SMART status is failing. The HDD is suspect and should be accessed via the recovery partition and run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.

Be prepared to replace the battery. Even though it indicates 'Normal', 1521 cycles is a lot. An old battery can expand and damage a MBP.

In order to run Yosemite efficiently, additional RAM would be useful. A 2011 MBP will accpet up to 16 GB RAM, but 8 should be sufficient. The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

Ciao.

You're getting the usual results of posting "etrecheck" output on this site, and as a result you may be in danger of losing data.

Launch Disk Utility, select the internal drive, and check the SMART status in the bottom of the window. If it reads "Failing," the drive must be replaced. Back up all data immediately. DO NOT attempt to repair the volume.

Thank you Linc Davis and OGELTHORPE

When i go to Applications>Utilities > Disk Utility> and click for Macintosh HD 'Verify Disk' i get the following message

"Error: This disk needs to be repaired using the Recovery HD. Restart your computer, holding down the Command key and the R key until you see the Apple logo. When the OS X Utilities window appears, choose Disk Utility."

I do not see the SMART status from Disk Utility - what could be the reason?

If as the above message is suggesting start the laptop holding down the command key and R key and then repair the disk, is there a chance that i may loose all the data?

Thank you all!

My macbook pro is running extremely slow
